The City of Groningen
Groningen is a large, beautiful city in the north of The Netherlands. It was first mentioned in 1040, in a deed of gift of the German king Henry III. Groningen has approximately 180.000 inhabitants including tens of thousands of university students. The city has many interesting buildings, residential areas, art, etc. It bears the stamp of national and international architects and artists. Take for instance the Italian architect Mendini, who designed Groninger Museum, or the world-famous Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas, who designed flat buildings and works of art for Groningen as well. Groningen architects and artists too have embellished the city with their internationally acknowledged expertise. The guided city walk we set up leads along one of the city’s magnificent harbours, the buildings of the University of Groningen (RUG), Groninger Museum, Martinitoren and across Grote Markt. We will also pay a visit to an almshouse, and see some beautiful squares. We will pay attention to the city’s history, art and architecture. If you would like to see the city and to hear a lot about it, we can organize a city walk for you, your company, etc. at any point of time.
